History

As the industrial revolution began, improving the performance of various industries became increasingly important. This newfound need laid the foundations of Industrial Engineering. Industrial engineering augments the performance of production and service systems by combining engineering, mathematics, computer, management, and economics. The ultimate goal is to help organizations run safely, efficiently, and profitably. Industrial Engineering played a pivotal role in the 1930s, rebuilding the world economy. Pennsylvania State University was the first to establish a faculty devoted entirely to Industrial Engineering in 1908.
The first Department of Industrial Engineering in Iran was established in 1347 at Sharif University of Technology.

During the 1950s to 1980s, in addition to the emphasis on quantitative and computational tools, quality in work life (QWL), total quality management (TQM), and total employee involvement (IEI) became popular in organizations. From 1980 onwards, the general needs of organizations, strengthening business, increasing competitiveness, improving efficiency, paying attention to customers, marketing and supply management became very important. The Faculty of Industrial Engineering started working in 1347 by accepting 39 students to meet the needs of the country's industries, and in 1348, it accepted 50 students and gradually developed in the following years. The number of graduates of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering reaches more than 2200 undergraduate students, more than 700 master's students, and about 25 doctoral students. Curriculums and different units of courses of this faculty have been developed according to the curriculums of the industrial engineering field of prestigious universities in the world and the scientific and specialized needs of the country. The required academic staff of this faculty have been selected from among the professors who graduated from the prestigious universities of America, Canada, England, Germany, France and Iran.

In 1351, the first group of industrial engineering students graduated, who were quickly attracted to the industries of the country, and some of them went abroad to continue their studies. Some of the prominent graduates of this faculty returned to serve the country after completing their higher education abroad, and some of them are currently working as faculty members in universities inside and outside Iran. After 40 years since the establishment of the field of industrial engineering, where many efforts have been made to introduce the true position of industrial engineering, now industrial engineering is widely known and has found its proper place. Fortunately, in recent years, the demand for attracting industrial engineers has increased and suitable career paths have been provided for industrial engineers at high levels of organizations. Industrial engineering is now one of the first five fields of priorities for candidates in technical engineering fields. Currently, the graduates of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering are working at the high levels of the country's administration, and those who have gone abroad are teaching and researching in prestigious universities in the world, and many of them have important jobs in prestigious companies in the United States and European countries. have.
